Brake Fluid Checks

If you had to pick one thing your car can’t be without it would be the brakes. A perfect running car that starts on the coldest mornings doesn’t amount to much if you can’t stop when you need to. That’s why you should take good care of your car’s braking system. This includes keeping your brake pads replaced, inspecting your rotors and, of course, making sure there is enough clean brake fluid to keep the system operating correctly.

Most, if not all, vehicles on the road today have a brake fluid reservoir that allows you to see through so you can check the fluid level without opening the cap. The brake fluid reservoir will be located toward the back of the engine bay on the driver’s side, up high where it’s easy to access.

Keeping the braking system in top condition is a crucial element to maintaining your car, and staying safe.

Brake Fluid Issues

Brake fluid is a non-petroleum-based product. This means that it can absorb moisture from the air, which can diminish the effectiveness of the system and ultimately your ability to stop your vehicle. In addition, sludge can build up within the braking system that can lead to braking part failure, leaking brake calipers or wheel cylinders and blocked valves inside the ABS system. Any of these could lead to costly brake repairs or the need for replacement parts.
